Biography
TINEKE VAN INGELGEM is a Belgian soprano with an unforgettable stage presence. Her acting skills, combined with her bright and powerful voice, make her perfect for strong women roles as Rusalka, Marschallin/Der Rosenkavalier and Chrysothemis/Elektra and have led her to opera houses in the whole of Europe, from La Monnaie in Brussels to La Scala in Milan.
Tineke's main repertoire contains the big roles of Germanic and Eastern-European music: she sang Marschallin/Der Rosenkavalier (Théâtre Grand Avignon, Luzerner Theater and Theater Trier), Rusalka (Opera Vlaanderen), Chrysothemis/Elektra (Teatro Politeama di Palermo), Jenny/Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny (Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg and Opera Vlaanderen), Ortlinde/Die Walküre (La Monnaie) and Second Niece/Peter Grimes (Opéra de Monte-Carlo and Teatro alla Scala).
Tineke’s vocal colour lends itself equally well for the French-Italian repertoire. After a.o. La maestra delle novizie - Suora infirmiera - La Ciesca/Il Trittico (Teatro Regio Torino and La Monnaie), Alice Ford/Falstaff (Opéra Royal de Wallonie, concert version) and La Dame de Monte-Carlo (Teatro Regio di Parma), Médée/Cherubini became her signature role. Her very emotional performance at the Opéra de Dijon and the Opéra de Rouen was a huge success – which got her an invitation from the Staatsoper Berlin to cover their Médée, conducted by Daniel Barenboim.
Besides these dramatic roles, Tineke’s comical acting skills were much appreciated in operetta roles such as Gräfin Mariza (Landestheater Linz) and Diane/Orphée aux enfers (Opéra Royal de Wallonie).
Tineke started her career in her native Belgium (in La Monnaie, Opera Vlaanderen and Opéra Royal de Wallonie) with smaller roles like Erste and Zweite Dame/Die Zauberflöte, Second Niece/Peter Grimes, Blumenmädchen/Parsifal, Erste Magd/Daphne and Mrs. Naidoo/Satyagraha.
Tineke is also an established Lied and oratorio singer. She sings recitals at home and abroad, and performed a.o. Ein deutsches Requiem/Brahms (Opera Vlaanderen), Marguerite/Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher (La Monnaie), Wesendoncklieder/Wagner (La Monnaie) and Te Deum/Bruckner (La Monnaie). This season she will be releasing the CD Je ne t'aime pas with pianist Aäron Wajnberg, with songs by Weill, Britten and Poulenc.
Having first obtained a master’s degree in Germanic Languages, Tineke went on to earn a further master in singing at the Lemmens Institute of Leuven. Tineke is general and artistic manager of Opera Caramba!, an opera company for kids, with which she played over 300 school opera performances. In 2020, she won the KLARA award for "breakthrough of the year".
